John McClellan
Branch Manager

John McClellan – You’ve heard of people who are passionate about their work – but did you ever imagine someone could get so excited about, well, about mortgages and real estate? If you are looking for someone who truly eats, sleeps and breathes real estate, and is more than happy to tell you all about it, then you’ve come to the right man. John E. McClellan has more than 14 years’ experience in real estate and mortgages and has been consistently ranked as one of the top ten mortgage brokers in Central Texas by the Austin Business Journal. Involved in both the broker side and the banking side of mortgages, John handles hundreds of various types of transactions each year. This experience gives him both a unique insight about the inner workings of the mortgage industry and the expertise to advise and counsel his clients about the best loans tailored to meet their individual needs. He specializes in all aspects of residential financing: FHA loans, VA loans, Conventional loans, USDA loans, and investment homes.
John owns a branch of Supreme Lending and has both in-house underwriting and a closing department. Supreme Lending is a full-service mortgage bank with corporate offices in Dallas and branch offices in Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and 24 other states. Supreme Lending funds more than a billion dollars yearly in residential mortgage loans.
Supreme Lending’s goal is to assist our partners and clients in thoroughly educating themselves about today’s ever-changing mortgage and real estate market with the goal of making informed, wise decisions about mortgage transactions. To achieve this goal John, along with his Team, (1) hosts a weekly radio show about mortgages and real estate, (2) provides instructional packages in podcast format, (3) contributes informative articles in notable professional publications, and (4) develops and teaches classes to assist in educating realtors.
(1) “Real Estate 101” radio show – John and his co-host Kevin Bown focus not only on the mortgage industry but also wide-ranging topics about the Central Texas real estate market in general with an emphasis on education and presenting unique strategies for different market environments. Airing every Sunday from 11 to Noon on NewRadio 590 KLBJ, “Real Estate Zone” features various segments, includingThe Mortgage Manager, an informative and instructive look at how managing a client’s mortgage over its life can save him thousands of dollars; The Consumer Credit Corner, which offers secrets about how to improve and keep credit scores high; and Be a Flipper, not a Flopper, which provides sound advice to investors who flip homes.
(2) Podcast education in iTunes – Participants can learn what they need to know about mortgage and real estate from industry specialists who have a combined experience of more than 25 years. These specialists share cutting-edge tips and techniques used in today’s roller-coaster market. A special aspect is that the podcast is the textbook. John’s segment is one of the most highly rated real estate podcasts on iTunes, with more than 100,000 downloads to date.
(3) Informative articles in notable professional publications – John’s articles are featured in Realty Line, Business District Magazine, and Austin Real Estate Daily. Titles of his recent articles include “The Great Mortgage Meltdown”; The Borrower, the Banker, and the Vote”; “The Truth about Central Texas Real Estate”; “Real Estate Market Watch The decline of the subprime and its effects on Austin’s real estate market”; “How USDA Loans Saved the Market”; “What Does the FHFA Takeover of Fannie and Freddie Mean to You”; “The End of Seller-Funded Down-Payment Assistance and other things politicians forgot to tell you about the new housing bill”; “Credit Scores . . . Important? Yes, more than ever!”; “Dogs and Cats Living Together—mass hysteria Where is real estate headed? Why?”; and “The Real Estate Roller Coaster When to buy and when to sell: A real estate investor’s guide to market timing.” John has been interviewed and showcased on Fox 7 News, on KVUE News, and in the Austin American-Statesman.
(4) Classes to assist in educating realtors – John has conceived, developed, and taught classes on FHA loans, USDA loans, marketing, understanding the market, and how to be a flipper, not a flopper. He has made nearly 40 presentations to classes of 25-100 participants, both realtors and clients, who have enthusiastically endorsed these classes as both educational and practically helpful to them.
John is a native of Central Texas and has lived most of his life in Austin. He is married to the former Laura Mendleson, a transplanted Austinite and a Texas educator. John and Laura have two children, Emma and Noah; and they are actively involved in their church and their children’s schooling and activities. John, an ardent football fan, enjoys astronomy, golf, scuba diving, photography, and family vacations.
